Squad Overview

4-2-3-1:

Premier League Squad Rules (Homegrown players):

You can see from the images the ages of players, and how many senior, homegrown and under-21 players we have. The Premier League squad allocations allow 25 senior players, of whom at least 8 must be 'homegrown', allowing for a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players. The number of u21 players is not restricted.

We currently have 22 senior players, of whom 7 are homegrown - this leaves spare capacity for 3 more senior players in our squad, two of whom can be non-homegrown. Sanogo will fill one of these spaces next season.

Complete squad list:

The average age of the squad is 25.5, with eight players aged 30 or over.

Notes:
  • Players in (brackets) are on loan.
  • Zelalem and Gnabry are not yet classed as homegrown, but will be by the time they are 21, when it matters.
  • Squad details correct as of 29/10/15.

4-1-4-1:

The image below gives an idea of squad depth in the 4-1-4-1 that Wenger has adopted this season. Some players are able to play in several positions, so I have placed them where they have been most commonly used this season, with the Wilshere-Ramsey axis in central midfield. However, Özil could well play in the centre, in which case Alexis would likely move across to the left, allowing Walcott to play on the right. Another alternative would be to play Alexis as a central striker, in place of Giroud.

The image below gives an idea of squad depth in the 4-2-3-1, which is the system I feel most effectively accommodates our best players.
